“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” – Romans 15:4

John Bunyan was an English writer and Puritan preacher best remembered as the author of the Christian allegory The Pilgrim's Progress. He testified the following: “Read God’s Word, and read it again; and do not despair of trying to understand the will and mind of God as revealed in His word, though you think they are fast locked up from you…

Pray and read, read and pray, for a little from God is better than a great deal from men. Also, what’s from men is uncertain, and is lost and tumbled over by men, but what’s from God is fixed as a nail in sure place.

There’s nothing that so abides with us as what we receive from God, and the reason why the Christians in this day are at such a loss as to some things is that they are contented to what comes from men’s mouths, without searching and kneeling before God to know of Him the truth of eternal things.

Lessons we receive at God’s hands come to us as truth from the minting house, though old in themselves, yet new to us, old truths are always new to us if they come with the shell of Heaven upon them.”

The Bible is God’s great gift to us to teach and encourage. But we need to apply God’s Word to our lives! Today in prayer, thank the Lord for the Bible and seek to apply His Word to your life.

“The Bible applied to the heart by the Holy Spirit, is the chief means by which men are built up and established in the faith, after their conversion.” – J.C. Ryle

God’s Word: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” – 2 Timothy 3:16
