“though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more” – Philippians 3:4

In 1963, Audrey Hepburn was at the peak of her career when she was cast as Eliza Doolittle in the film “My Fair Lady”. By then she was Hollywood royalty, having received her fourth Oscar nomination a few years earlier for one of her signature roles, Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." She was chosen over Julie Andrews, who originated the role of Eliza on stage and was a natural in the part. However, the producers wanted someone Audrey for her star power.

However, there was a problem. Audrey couldn't sing. She took singing lessons in an attempt to improve, but still couldn't cut it. As a result, professional singer Marni Nixon was used in the movie to perform the vocals instead Audrey.

We cannot put our confidence in our own talents; we need to place our faith in the One who has given us our talents and abilities.  Today in prayer, confess any sin of pride. Give thanks to Jesus for all the talents and abilities He has given you.

“Talent is God-given; be humble.” – John Wooden

God’s Word: “For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh” – Philippians 3:3
