He Remembers You

“But Zion said, ‘The LORD has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me.’ ‘Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!’” – Isaiah 49:14-15

There are at least 33 people in the world who could tell you what they ate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, on February 20, 1998. Or who they talked to on October 28, 1986. Pick any date, and they can pull from their memory the most prosaic details of that thin slice of their personal history.

Others, no doubt, have this remarkable ability, but so far, only those 33 have been confirmed by scientific research. The most famous is probably actress Marilu Henner, who displayed her stunning recall of autobiographical minutiae on “60 Minutes” a few years ago.

What makes this condition, known as hyperthymesia, so fascinating is that it’s so selective. These are not savants who can rattle off long strings of numbers, Rainman-style, or effortlessly retrieve tidbits from a deep vault of historical facts. In fact, they generally perform no better on standard memory tests than the rest of us.

Nope, only in the recollection of the days of their lives are they exceptional.

Though we may forget God, the Lord always remembers us. Today in prayer, give thanks to Jesus that He deeply loves you and never for a moment forgets you.

“Once we experience God in our loneliest place—the place where we feel most abandoned by humans—we begin to comprehend that he is always there. He has always been there. His love and comfort surround us no matter where we go.” – Mary Fairchild

God’s Word: “Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are my servant; I formed you; you are my servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.” – Isaiah 44:21
