El Shaddai – God Almighty (Part 4)

Finding Grace in the Names of God

The relationship that God has with believers is predicated on obedience and following the plan that God has for each believer. In order to secure the believer’s position, to be able to communicate with him and to help the disciple with the journey God has planned for him or her, He gave them His Spirit as a guide or mentor.

We receive the Holy Spirit at the point of our salvation.   Of the three persons of the trinity, the God Father, the God the Son Jesus and the God the Holy Spirit, it is the Spirit of God who is probably the most misunderstood, underused, and underappreciated.  Yet His presence in the believer during the process of spiritual maturity makes the Spirit an important person of the Trinity.

New believers must understand that God will use the Holy Spirit to empower His own with understanding and wisdom.  Man’s understanding, and wisdom is a gift from God and cannot be achieved by mankind without the power of the Spirit of God.  Isaiah 11:2 makes this clear in the relationship between the Spirit and Jesus, “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”

The Spirit spoken of in Isaiah 11:2 is the same Spirit that indwells the believer and makes available to each one wisdom and understanding through God’s power and grace.

As believers, Christians must rely on God for both understanding and wisdom.  If believers fail to follow the leading of the Spirit, the consequences will be dire.  Christians who rely on self to carry out God’s plan will not only fail miserably; they will live an unfulfilled life.  Since they do not follow God’s direction for their lives, the great power of God alludes them.

Since God’s power and grace are the agents of redemption, we cannot dismiss Him.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6)

Salvation is through belief in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection, and in no other way.  Salvation is by faith through grace alone.  It is all accomplished through God’s power.

God’s power in salvation is available to us if we only believe; we cannot escape Him.  God’s power and grace were demonstrated in the resurrection of the dead.

Jesus Christ our Lord who was declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead (Romans 1:4-5).

The resurrection is the climatic action of the power and grace of Almighty God.  This one act of God resulted in the justification we experienced through our salvation.  The resurrection is the final part of the puzzle of the mystery of the ages, and the gospel message that finishes the picture of salvation and solidifies the proof of eternal life.  Without the resurrection, Jesus being brought from death into life. there would be no evidence that we would or could be brought to life after death.  The resurrection is the key that opens the door to eternal life with God.

The virgin birth identifies the miracle of Jesus’ birth.  He is both man and God at the same time.  Jesus had a duel nature. (Matthew 1:23, John 1:14). God predetermined the God/Man nature of Jesus and revealed His decision in Isaiah 9:6.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust (Psalm 91:1-2).

When you are writing about God there are so many different directions in which you can go because of the vastness of who he is. While you can focus on many different aspects of God’s character and nature, for today I want you to focus on only one, God is El Shaddai. God Almighty is everything you need to face every situation in life. Notice I didn’t say God has everything you need I said God is everything you need. When you are under God’s covering you are safe, you are secure, you are provided for, and you have nothing to fear or worry about. El Shaddai, God Almighty is watching over you and when he is for you, there is nothing or no one who will ever overtake you. I pray this truth and revelation of who God is will illuminate your heart and mind today and if you are tempted to be fearful or worried that you would remember El Shaddai is with you and there is no safer place to be. I leave you with this verse to further encourage you.[1]
