“You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” – Haggai 1:6

Canadian Gerald Muswagon bought a $2 lotto ticket that made him an instant millionaire in 1998. He won a $10 million jackpot but blew through it in just a few short years.

He bought a house that doubled as a nightly party spot hosting his ever-growing legion of hangers-on. He also blew the cash on cars, partying, and gifts, while racking up a string of legal entanglements.

There were other bad decisions, including the October 2000 night in which he led police on a lengthy chase while driving his brand new Chevy Silverado at speeds reaching 110 miles per hour. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was sentenced to three months in jail.

In another incident, he was charged with sexual assault.

By the end, he was doing manual labor on a farm to support his girlfriend and six young children. Seven years after his big win; Muswagon hanged himself in his parent's garage.

The Lord wants us to be good stewards of all that He has entrusted to us. Today in prayer, seek the Lord in His Word and develop the discipline and wisdom the Lord wants you to have in being a good steward.

“All the blessings we enjoy are Divine deposits, committed to our trust on this condition, that they should be dispensed for the benefit of our neighbors.” – John Calvin

God’s Word: “When anyone came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten. When anyone went to a wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were only twenty.” – Haggai 2:16
