On June 23, 2019 the Encanto Southern Baptist Church celebrated its 75th church anniversary. Encanto Southern Baptist Church had its beginning in January 1940 as “Ocean View Baptist Mission”, two years prior to any Southern Baptist Church being established in San Diego. It was started by missionaries Rev. and Mrs. Herbert Haywood. Ocean View Baptist Church affiliated with the San Diego Southern Baptist Association in 1944 and in 1954 changed its name to “Encanto Southern Baptist”.
Encanto Southern Baptist Church was blessed by many amazing leaders over the years including but not limited to Dr. Don E. Conley who lead the church for over thirty-five years. In 2016, Dr. Conley retired and passed the baton over to the current pastor, Rev. Robert Pope. The celebration was blessed with Dr. Fermin Whittaker as “Guest Speaker”, encouraging comments from Dr. Mike Carlisle.
Studying God’s Word, trusting in His promises and sufficiency, and Joining Him where He is working has brought us to this exciting time in the history and life of Encanto Southern Baptist Church – Vision, “A diverse family united by faith in the Gospel, motivated by love for God and others to Exalt, Evangelize, Edify, Equip, and Encourage.” - to God be the glory for all HE HAS DONE!
