At lunch, one day, W. Wilbert Welch, chancellor of the Grand Rapids Baptist College and Seminary, told a story about one of his professors, Dr. Charles Brokenshire, a godly and gifted scholar with a thorough knowledge of Scripture.
Now Dr. Brokenshire had degrees from Princeton University and the University of Chicago. He spoke and read more than 35 languages.
Dr. Welch recalled…
“I remember our first day in class. Dr. Brokenshire didn't know us by name yet, so he referred to some cards in his hand. Looking up, he said, ‘Mr. Green?’ The student identified himself. ‘Mr. Green, do you have any problems with the Bible?’
‘No, sir,’ replied the confident new student.
Dr. Brokenshire replied, ‘Then why don't you read it? You will.’”
The Bible isn’t always easy to understand, but thanks be to God that which we can understand describes our loving God. Today in prayer, give thanks to Jesus for being the Word of God made flesh.
