Summer Blast at Shadow Mountain Community Church

Posted

After a year of not having kids on site for Summer Blast, Shadow Mountain Community Church (SMCC) in El Cajon was excited to once again host their summer program on July 12 through July 16. Summer Blast is the SMCC equivalent of Vacation Bible School (VBS).

This year more than 1700 children immersed the El Cajon Campus with just over 700 volunteers. The theme took children and volunteers through a fun week of exploring how God is bigger than all our fears. This year we saw 432 kids make a decision to follow Jesus, as well as two middle school volunteers. And we hope to see more decisions as we continue this program at our area campuses.

After a year of being at home, and limited contact with community, we weren’t quite sure what to expect with the response to having our program. To our amazement, parents and attendees were as excited as we were to be back!

We are finding that now more than ever, our kids needed a great summer of fun and connection. The week concluded with a missions offering that provided more than 1500 boxes for operation Christmas child, and as children left they received a Bible as a gift. For many kids this is their first “very own” Bible and few words can explain the joy on their faces as they received this gift. We pray they will never lose that excitement over God’s Word.
