Pastor Cornell Yi's Inauguration service

The San Diego Korean Baptist Church located in National City, CA had their 47th Anniversary as well as inaugurated Pastor Cornell Yi and his wife Maryann.

Dr. Mike and Judy Carlisle of the San Diego Southern Baptist Association were asked to attend.  Mike gave an encouragement message to the church as well as to Pastor Cornell and Maryann.

The Cornell’s have been in Korean-American church ministry for 30 years with ups and downs.  They both were born in Korea, finished graduate school in Seminary and were education majors before coming to America as immigrants.

Cornell is a 5th generation of a Christian family but Maryann was the first one of her family line to become a Christian. Miraculously God led them together to the same pathway of the Truth.  When they came to America in 1987 & 1989(Maryann came 2 years later), they were able to serve a Korean-American church in Carson, CA as an associate pastor that was the beginning of the faith ministry journey in Christ.

They have been in Maui, Honolulu, Hawaii {3.5 yrs} and Havelock, NC [church planting & evangelizing] {3.5 yrs}, Anchorage AK [church growing and evangelizing] {7.5years} then they moved back to California following God’s heart in 2005 and still live in southern California.

“We’ve gone through great joy, thankfulness, as well as conflict and pain in the narrow pathway, but we try to follow His voice and His will no matter what the cost is even under the worst situation such as being diagnosed a critical stage of colon cancer for Cornell.  Our house was foreclosed and we were evicted with little children, no place to go and Cornell had to give up the ministry for almost 10 years for his surgery and follow-up treatment.

We praise the Lord because God made us to understand in depth the less fortunate people’s heart and their situations in details by our personal experiences.”

“After Cornell’s surgery and 12 times chemo therapy, follow-up treatments, God cured him completely and now we are able to serve the body of Christ again.  One day we got a phone call from pastor David Cho in San Diego and asked us to help this church since he had to leave the church.  Before we came here, we served a small church in Lancaster. We found a successor and moved to San Diego.”

“We firmly believe that Cornell now lives for Jesus and wherever He calls us, we are ready to run for Him.”
