Doing work for the Lord is what being a mission team is all about and Fellowship of the Rockies is a proven example of just what they will do when it comes to being a mission team and doing work for the Lord and the community that they are serving.

This past week, Hilltop Baptist Church played host to one of God’s dedicated Colorado Mission Teams, Fellowship of the Rockies.  It has been Hilltop Baptist Churches pleasure to have this team come each summer to do work in our community and lend a helping hand to projects in and around our church.

This year the Mission Team, with eager attitudes, headed out to the Southern California Mission field and found their flight canceled due to bad weather that held them up but did not dampen their spirits. God did not let this get them down. They waited out the weather and arrived in Chula Vista, California in the early morning hours of June 21st where upon arrival they made hast to get some rest and after a hearty breakfast were off to work in the children’s garden at Hilltop Middle school.  There they mowed and cleared weeds and even purchased, painted and donated three picnic tables to the school for the children to enjoy outdoor time in their freshly cleared garden.

Following the weekend the team progressed to working in not one but two of our area parks, Hilltop and Gayle L. McCandliss Parks. Here they cleaned and painted the gazebos. Painted the trash bins and painted all of the tables and benches in each park. There they met people who told them how nice they were making the park look and how pleased they were to see such an amazing group of young people working to make the parks look so much nicer.

The mission team also did odd jobs in and around the church.  A couple of brave individuals used ladders and climbed up onto the roof to turn on the steeple lights, that had been recently installed but were never turned on.  A large tree limb, found to be an asset, was relocated in order to provide seating near the freshly cleared and spruced up fire pit.

Evening activities included trips to the beach, dinners out at various restaurants and time shopping in Old Town.

The mission team enjoyed their time here in Chula Vista just as much as Hilltop Baptist Church enjoyed having them be here working alongside of us helping to make our community just a bit more pleasant for all.

God’s Blessing to all of our Mission Team Members.
