Whether it’s Al-Shabab in Somalia and Kenya, Al-Qaida in Saudi Arabia and Yemen, or the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan, many of our brothers and sisters face threats every day by Islamic extremists. Despite their fears, they faithfully gather for worship and Bible study in secret, and carefully share the gospel knowing they could be killed at any moment for doing so.
As you lift them up in prayer, here are five ways you can pray for them more specifically:
- Pray for spiritual growth. Meeting with other believers for fellowship and discipleship can be difficult and dangerous. As you thank the Lord that He will complete the good work he began in their lives, ask that their “love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,” so that they “may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ” (Philippians 1:6, 9-11).
- Pray for gospel opportunity. Pray that the Lord will open a door for the gospel and that our brothers and sisters in Christ will share the message of salvation clearly (Colossians 4:3-4).
- Pray for boldness. Knowing the cost for sharing the gospel, pray that our brothers and sisters in Christ will continue to speak God’s Word with all boldness (Acts 4:29).
- Pray for wisdom and endurance. Ask the Lord to fill Christians with the knowledge of His will “in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy” (Colossians 1:9-11).
- Pray for kingdom advancement. Pray that “the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored”; and as they advance the kingdom, ask that the Lord will establish and guard them against the evil one, giving them “peace at all times in every way” (2 Thessalonians 3:1-3, 16).
