FINDING GRACE IN THE NAMES OF JESUS – PART NINE

HUIOS TAU THEOS /SON OF MAN, HUIOS TAU ANTHROPOS (Lesson 4)

THE NEW TESTAMENT EXPLAINS THE VIRGIN BIRTH:

SON OF A HUMAN MOTHER

Luke 1:35 (NKJV), “and the angel answered and said to her, ‘the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.’”  This miraculous conception, the virgin birth of Jesus Christ was necessary to maintain His deity, to establish His preexistence, and to fulfill O. T. Prophecy.

The key to the importance of the virgin birth lies completely in the Holy Spirit’s messages to both Mary and Joseph.  In Matthew 1:20-21 we have the account of the presentation of the news to Joseph.  "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."

Then in Luke 1:34-35, we find the announcement made to Mary, "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"  The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.  So, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

In both explanations, we see the exact same description of the conception from the Angel.  Jesus would be born of a human mother with the Holy Spirit as the Father of Jesus.  Jesus had no earthly father.  God was His Father.  Immanuel, God with us.

SON OF GOD:

Son of: nt:5207, greek, ‎huios tou; God.  God: ot:426 ‎elahh (aramaic) (el-aw'), nt:

Used by virtually every author of the New Testament, the title "is arguably the most significant Christological title... 'Son of God' or its equivalents ('the Son,' or 'my Son,' etc.) occur more than 124 times in the NT...". The title, one that is applied by Jesus to himself (e.g., Mark 13:32) and by others as well (e.g. John 20:31), points to a special intimacy between Jesus and God the Father.  The use of the term “Son of man” is common in the bible.  The NIV version uses the phrase in its translation one-hundred and eighty-seven times.  (Strong’s numbers OT:426 ‎elahh (Aramaic) (el-aw'); meaning God or god.[1]

SON OF MAN

(Son of: NT:5207, Greek, ‎huios tou; Man: NT: 444 Greek, ‎anthropos (anth'-ro-pos): [2] The Human One

JESUS HAD A HUMAN BIRTH:

In Matthew1:21, an angel appears to Joseph and says that Mary will have a physical, human birth, "and she will bear a son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for it is he who will save His people from their sins."  In addition, Galatians 4:4 say this about Jesus’ birth, “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,

JESUS LIVED A HUMAN LIFE:

John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”

First, we focus on the term Word. “In the beginning was the Word.” The most important thing to know about this Word is found in verse 14: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” The Word refers to Jesus Christ.[3] – John Piper

Hebrews 2:17 adds this truth when it says, “Therefore, in all things, He had to be made like His brethren
