Collaborating, not Competing, with the Church Across the Street

It is an immense privilege to engage with the transformative work of God in San Diego! This city, renowned for its nearly perfect climate and stunning beaches, is both a port and a border city and uniquely poised for a dynamic and diverse revival. The burgeoning movement we are witnessing is not solely attributable to our geographical advantages or our status as a favored tourist destination; rather, it stems from local leaders and pastors collectively affirming Jesus’ prayer in John 17.

In John 17:20-21, Jesus articulates His desire for unity among believers, stating,

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

In this spirit, the church across the street is viewed not as a competition but as a collaborative partner. For instance, if you visit the Round Table Pizza on College Blvd on the third Thursday of the month, you’ll witness men gathering to pray for one another, their ministries, and to share resources, all with the goal of reflecting heaven’s vision for San Diego.

Several flagship, sending churches exemplify this ethos of multiplication and serve as beacons of hope for innovative approaches to ministry.

  • New Vision Church, located in San Diego, has successfully planted seven churches over the past decade. Their latest initiative, Hope Church, is thriving, having celebrated over 100 baptisms since its inception.
  • First Baptist of Lemon Grove represents a compelling narrative of merger and growth. Under the leadership of Michael Jimenez, who has recently become the Lead Pastor, the church has embraced a multiplying model by installing a new pastor for its Spanish ministry. By the grace of God, they have played a vital role in planting three new churches. Rather than shutting their doors, Michael now leads this revitalized church to prioritize equipping leaders who can further the mission of discipleship and multiplication.

May God continue to bring salvation to San Diego and expand His kingdom using these church planters!
