“Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, "Do not let your hair become unkempt and do not tear your clothes, or you will die and the LORD will be angry with the whole community. But your relatives, all the house of Israel, may mourn for those the LORD has destroyed by fire. Do not leave the entrance to the Tent of Meeting or you will die because the LORD's anointing oil is on you." So they did as Moses said.” – Leviticus 10:6-7
In 1956, Jim Elliott was an American Christian missionary and one of five people killed during Operation Auca, an attempt to evangelize the Huaorani people of Ecuador. Jim’s death stirred many young Christians to become missionaries. Jim’s older brother Bert, who went on to serve as a missionary to Peru for more than 60 years with his wife Colleen, said: “Jim and I both served Christ, but differently. Jim was a great meteor, streaking through the sky.”
Pastor Randy Alcorn said the following about Bert: “Unlike his brother Jim, the shooting star, Bert was a faint star that rose night after night, faithfully crossing the same path in the sky, to God’s glory.
In missions work, suffering sometimes results in a short life culminating in martyrdom, sometimes in a long life of daily dying to self and living for Christ. I believe Jim Elliot’s reward is considerable, but it wouldn’t surprise me to discover that Bert and Colleen’s will be greater still.”
The Lord desires us to be faithful and He will bring success. Today in prayer, thank the Lord that when we are faithful to Him, He will bring success.
